Whats the best form of martial arts or self defense?
What is the best form of martial arts? I heard its Ju Jitsu (spelling?)
I just want to become dedicated to one form that will help be defend myself in the street and wherever. I dont want to learn a self defense for the fun of it or to go in competition.
I want something that I can learn so I can literally beat the shit out of someone if I’m threatened.
Any suggestions?
AACK! I can’t believe some of the answers that get posted to these questions (and you shouldn’t either).
First, martial arts and self defense are two different things. Some martial arts can be adapted to self defense — some easier than others — and some specifically focus on self defense, but they are really two different topics. Most JuJitsu schools claim to be teaching self defense (as do most martial arts schools in general). This is false. What they are teaching is a system that is very effective for one-on-one, dueling-type situations. Others are teaching styles that are good for conditioning, competition or demonstration. Krav Maga, Via Potentia and similar styles were developed SPECIFICALLY to teach self defense, and are what you should seek if that is what you are after.
If such a school is not available in your area, next look for something like Silat or Kajukenbo. These are aggressive fighting styles and would meet your needs.
